MILENA GONZALEZ LAM, LCSW · LICENSED IN FLORIDA + COLORADO · EMDR CERTIFIED
I stopped practicing by the book. I started practicing by the body.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida. I work with people who are thoughtful, tired of their own patterns, and open to being helped by more than conversation, even if they've never tried anything like it before.
I spent years working inside systems that measured care in units and sessions and boxes checked. I was good at it. I also wasn't sure I was helping anyone, and I definitely wasn't being myself.
What kept happening was this: someone would arrive at something real, right at minute forty-three, and I'd have to close it down because that's what the hour allowed. Or I'd notice their whole body change while they described something as "fine," and there was no line on the form for that. The parts of the work I trusted most were the parts I wasn't supposed to be doing.
So I left, and built a practice around them instead.
I wanted to practice the way I actually believe healing works. Slower, in the body, and outdoors more often than a clinic allows.

HOW I WORK NOW
Breath and movement
Now I bring movement and breath into the room. I talk about seasons, and nature, and what your nervous system is doing while we speak. And I bring the evidence base with me — EMDR, Internal Family Systems, CBT, somatic work — because rigor and reverence were never actually in conflict, whatever anyone told you.
I'm a hippie and a nerd in roughly equal measure, and I've stopped apologizing for either. If that combination sounds like your kind of thing, then we’d be a great fit.
FIT
I’d rather be useful than universal.
Where I'm at my best
You're reflective, curious, and you suspect your patterns mean something — even if you can't name what.
You've done therapy before and can describe your stuck place with total accuracy, and still can't move it.
You're carrying anxiety, stress, a life transition, or a relationship that keeps hitting the same wall.
You're open to the body being part of this — breath, movement, sensation — without needing to already know how.
You want depth more than you want a quick fix, and you have some patience for a non-linear process.
You're a therapist or helping professional carrying more from the work than you've had a place to put down.
When I'd point you elsewhere
You're in acute crisis or need a higher level of care — that deserves a team, not a weekly hour, and I'll help you find one.
You want strictly short-term, protocol-driven CBT and nothing else. That's a legitimate ask; I'm not the closest match for it.
You're looking for medication management, which needs a psychiatric provider.
You're outside Florida. My license means you need to be in the state when we meet.
You'd like someone else to do the noticing for you. I can't — the work runs on your willingness to look.
None of this is a verdict on you. Fit is a two-way thing, and it matters more than technique. In the research and in my experience. If it isn't there, I'll say so on our first call and point you toward someone better suited. That's a good outcome, not a failed one.
WHAT TENDS TO CHANGE
Not fewer hard feelings. A wider way of meeting them.
I can’t promise you’ll stop feeling anxious, or that grief will lift on schedule. Nobody can, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
What often changes is your relationship to what comes up. You begin to understand the pattern instead of only reacting to it. You notice it earlier. You recognize what your body is doing. You bring more context, more self-compassion, and more choice into a moment that used to feel automatic.
The pattern may still return. That doesn’t mean the work failed. The spiral is the return with a wider view. Each time around, you bring what you’ve learned from the turns before.
Colibrí
SPANISH FOR HUMMINGBIRD
The hummingbird carries a spiritual meaning that feels deeply aligned with this work: resilience, adaptability, presence, joy, and the ability to keep finding beauty even after difficult seasons.
It can hover, move backward, change direction quickly, and return again and again to what sustains it.
That felt like the right symbol for a practice built around growth that isn’t linear, but alive, responsive, and always unfolding.
TRAINING AND CREDENTIALS
The rigor half.
